Gasoline, Diesel and Kerosene Prices in Belize

There are three major chains in Belize, and both take credit cards (Visa/MC)  They are

Esso

Shell, and

Texaco (pronounced "tex - AH' - co")

They do not compete; their prices are set by the Government.  They are located strategically, close to most major arteries.  <giggle>.

There are also bootleggers who will sell you gas (illegally, of course) at about three-fourths of the major rate.

Gasoline helps pay for the government, just as it does in the US.  Roughly, Gasoline is about $4US and Diesel is about $2.  This is because most of the government trucks run on diesel.  There are also some stations that have a government pump.  Gas in the free zone is about $2.50US, but don't think about it -- you can't go in there!!

Gasoline is brought into Belize by Esso (Standard Oil)  Here is the breakdown on the price of gas, as of  January 30, 2005 in Belize Dollahs.

Government Tax per Gallon     $4.18

Esso Cost                             $3.12

Distributor Commission           $  .41

Transportation Fee                  $  .07

Service Station Commission    $  .55

Total Cost To Consumer  $8.33   This is for Regular.  Premium is more.

(Thanks to The Reporter.)

Newer.  Under the PUP, prices went up and up, thanks to taxes.  Under the UDP (which just swept the elections)  taxes have been reduced, but world gasoline prices are rising steadilly.
