Corozal Facilities

Street Lights!   You may take street lights for granted, but we don't. Corozal may not have street lights everywhere, but they do have them in lots of good places, including right in front of our house!l  And we have the nicest nightlighted boulevard (called 7th Avenue) in the entire country!

Banks.  Belize has three national banks, and Corozal has a branch of each one.  If you are a small depositor ($10,000 or less) you will have to jump thru a lot of hoops to open a new account.  (It's actually against the law for non-residents!)   If you have a million dollars to deposit, no problema.  (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

  • Belize Bank.  The only strictly Belizean bank, and the coldest spot in town.

  • Scotia Bank.  Canadian, solid as a rock, and twice as flexible. (Not!)

  • Atlantic Bank.  The headquarters is in Honduras, the money is reputedly middle-Eastern. Click here for some special information on Atlantic Bank.

  • St. Francis Credit Union.  Not a bank, but surely the friendliest place to put your money.  Click here for details.

Phone Center.  [Fifth Avenue] Make a call to anywhere from here, and charge it to your credit card.  You can buy a phone card for use in most pay phones in Belize, or on any unrestricted phone.  Your cell phone may work in Belize, you can buy one that does.

Fire Department.  Corozal has two fire trucks (a pumper and a cherry-picker.)  One grass fire so far (since Feb 99) but a wildly sireening truck starts holidays at 6AM by cruising up and down every street!

Library [on the town square]  Corozal has a delightful little library, and as friends, we've given it its own set of pages.  Click here to visit.

Cable TV. Yes, Corozal has 45 channels of satellite TV, including many movie channels that are expensive options in the US, all for $35 Dollah ($17.50 US) per month.  Click here for a handy reference list.

Charlotte's Web Cyber Café & Book Exchange.  [Fifth Avenue] The best place for tourists to rest, visit, swap books and check their e-mail.  Check here for details and a map. Ooops!  Closed!!  I hear she sells books out of her house. (???)

Virtual Office. North 4th Avenue, two blocks from the park. Carlos "Fred" Orio is "the man" for computer services and parts in Corozal.  He has software at bargain prices, and computers built to order.  You can get your e-mail here or browse the web for a nominal fee.  Fred is also the DHL express mail point.   Phone 501-422-2010.  Fax: 422-3672.

Water Taxi.  There's a water taxi to San Pedro. Read about it here.

Maya Island Air.  Four flights a day to San Pedro now.  Read about it here.

Car RentalNew.   Yes there is a rental place in Corozal.  Look here.
