GROWING THINGS

Everything we have planted here so far has grown, at least for a while.  Some things grow PHENOMENALLY!!. (Some things grow for a while, and then die.)  If you like planting and harvesting, explore this section of the website.

Grass, Trees & Shrubs.  We rent our house, but we've decided to make it a showplace for Belizeans to admire and emulate.  We've planted grass, trees, and shrubs all over the lot. Come here to see pictures and descriptions.

Growing Food.  Much of the food we eat is grown locally (mostly in Mexico) but some things are easier to grow, or simply aren't sold in the local market.  UPDATE:  (April 2001) Currently we are growing tomatoes successfully in the ground, but something is attacking the plants. Judging from the local tomatoes in the market, tomatoes just don't grow big and luxuriously dark red like they should here.  However, we can buy beautiful thin-skinned Romas here for 50 cents a pound!  (Newer:  I think they smuggle them in from Mexico, but nobody is talking!)

Hydroponics.  In the States, we experimented with hydroponics.  We brought all of our materials down here, and we are in the process of setting up some plants to grow tomatoes and some other vegetables in some quantity.  Click here to see how we are doing.

Hydroponics Elsewhere. Newest.  (July 2007) My friend Ray Auxillou is experimenting with hydroponics over in Cayo.  Check out his website here.
